Some of the best opportunities to see great bears in their natural habitat lies within a relatively small area (relative to Alaska's size). Katmai National Park, McNeil River Bear Sanctuary, Kodiak Island, and Lake Clark National Park are all among the world's best locations for spotting brown bears. Alaska brown bears are grizzly bears, but they are generally larger due to their richer diet of salmon. Large brown bears can weigh over fifteen hundred pounds, close to twice the weight of a large inland grizzly.
I am looking forward to photographing the bears at Lake Clark National Park in June for the first time. More to follow.......
